Executive Coaching
Al was engaged to work with a CEO’s
direct report in bringing about major
improvement in his leadership style and
impact.
After the initial commitment and agreement
were established, Al worked with the
executive to develop his own agenda and
goals (in this case, thinking and performing
as an executive in a large complex system,
including ‘letting go’ and
trusting more, improving communication
with direct reports, and balancing policy
and operational roles) and define strategies
to achieve those results. One strategy
was the provision of feedback based on
real, observed situations (meetings and
other day-today interactions). Another
strategy was more complete ‘360’ assessment
and understanding, accomplished by participation
in an ‘off the counter’ executive
development experience. While this work
was not always easy or ‘fun’,
the client reported that it was invaluable
in keeping on track with his career.
Progress was being made on all fronts,
and was reaffirmed and accelerated by
the outside development experience. The
coach and client have re-committed to
help examine deeper issues and areas
of potential growth – balance in
work and personal life, and looking forward
to the next phases of the executive’s
career and life.
